Excuses For Not Being Saved and God’s Answer

Text: Rom. 1:18-22

Introduction: Like the song “Excuses” everybody has them. Unfortunately they won’t do any good when they stand before God at the Judgment. This morning we are going to look at some excuses and see what God says about them.

I. THE EXCUSES OF THE ATHEIST
A. There is no God. God’s answer; Ps.14:1
1. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
B. Science has the true answer. God’s answer; 1 Tim. 6:20
1. O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
C. Death is the end of man. God’s answer; Heb. 9:27
1. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

II. THE EXCUSES OF THE AGNOSTIC
A. No one knows whether there is a God. God’s answer; Ps. 19:1,2
1. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handywork.
B. No on can know whether the Bible is true. God’s answer; Ps. 119:89
1. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

C. No one can know whether there is a Heaven. God’s answer; Mat. 10:32,33
1. Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. 33But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

III. THE EXCUSES OF THE DECEIVED
A. My way is all right. God’s answer; Pro. 14:12
1. There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
B. I am living a good life. God’s answer; James 2:10
1. For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all
C. I am a church member. God’s answer; John 3:3
1. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

IV. THE EXCUSES OF THE UNCONVICTED
A. I am not lost. God’s answer; Rom. 3:23
1. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
B. I don’t have to believe. God’s answer; John 3:18
1. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
C. I don’t have the feeling. God’s answer; Eph. 2:8,9
1. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast.

V. THE EXCUSES OF THE CARELESS
A. I am not living good enough to be saved. God’s answer; Mat. 9:12,13
1. But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. 13But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

B. I will become a Christian later. God’s answer; Isa. 55:6
1. Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
C. I could not possibly hold out. God’s answer; 2 Tim. 1:12
1. For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

VI. THE EXCUSES OF THE IGNORANT
A. I have committed the unpardonable sin. Rom. 10:13
1. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
B. I can’t give up my sins. God’s answer; 2 Cor.5:17
1. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
C. The Christian life is too hard. God’s answer; Pro. 13:15
1. Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

VII. THE EXCUSES OF THE PROCRASTINATOR
A. I will seek the Lord some other time. God’s answer; Pro. 27:1
1. Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
B. I will become a Christian if my family agrees. God’s answer; Mat. 10:29,30
1. And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, 30But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
C. There is plenty of time. God’s answer; Mat. 25:10-12
1. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. 11Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. 12But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. 13Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

Conclusion: What is your excuse for not trusting Jesus Christ this morning for you salvation. There is no excuse!
