GOD'S GREATEST GIFT

Text: James 1:17-25

In Verse #17 James turns the page to the goodness of God, reminding us that anything fulfilling, anything worthwhile, anything good is found in the Lord.
We have the NAME and the NATURE of our heavenly Father.

Vr 17 THE NAME..."The Father Of Lights...no variableness, neither shadow of turning. (Gen1:1, Malachi 3:6, Heb 13:8) God never Changes.

Vr 17 THE NATURE ... "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above". (Gift of "Life", "Baby", "Bible" "JESUS" is the greatest gift of all") New Life In God through Jesus is God's gift to us.

I. HOW THIS NEW LIFE IS DISTRIBUTED. V. 18
This new life is .......

(a). Of The Father's Will - The Identification Of The New Birth.
Vr #18 .."Of His Own Will beget He us" (John 1:13).

(b). By The Father's Word - The Implement Of The New Birth.
Vr #18 .. "Begat He us with the WORD of TRUTH." (Romans 10:17)
Ephesians 1:13 "In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the WORD of Truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of Promise,"

(c). For The Father's Worship - The Intent Of The New Birth.
Vr #18 ..."that we should be a kind of first fruits of His creatures".

II. HOW THIS NEW LIFE IS DEMONSTRATED. Vr#19-20
Three statements in light of our daily walk with God.

(a). Readiness - Swift To Hear
Vr#19 ... "let every man be swift to hear".. (Mark 4:9, 23, 24)

(b). Restraint - Slow To Speak
Vr#19 ... "slow to speak" (Warning Against = Hasty Words)
Proverbs 10:11 "The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked."
Proverbs 21:23 "Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.

(c). Reluctance - Slow To Wrath.
Vr#19 ... "slow to wrath".. (Words and Wrath go together)
WRATH = "Orga" = Anger, Grudge, Rage, Animosity

1. The Rule For Christians = "slow to wrath" (Temper Tempters)

2. The Reason Why = Vr#20 "For the WRATH OF MAN worketh NOT the RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD.

III. HOW THE NEW LIFE IS DEVELOPED. Vr#21-25
If this new life is developed there is:

(a). Something We Need To Remove.
Vr #21 "Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness,"

FILTHINESS = "Sin's Defilements". (moral defilements, questionable things)

Colossians 3:8 "But now ye also put off all these; "anger", "wrath", "malice", "blasphemy", "filthy communication" out of your mouth."

I Peter 2:1 "Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speaking," ....

SUPERFLUITY OF NAUGHTINESS = "Sin's Damages" ( undergrowth of sin, joking about sin ..."joking about sin")

Luke 9:44 "Let these sayings sink down into your ears" (We are to get rid of every thing that becomes, as it were, wax in the ears, everything that prevents you from hearing and understanding the Word of God.)

(b). Something We Need To Receive.
Vr#21 ... "and receive with meekness the engrafted word," ...

1. Receive The What = " Vr #21 ... "receive ... the word" = (with a teachable spirit)

2. How To Receive = Vr #21 .. "receive with meekness" ... = (openness, a willingness to hear, without any preconceived ideas of our own.)

3. Why We Need To Receive = Vr #21 .."which is able to save your souls"

(c). Something We Need To Reflect.
Vr#22-25 Read.

1. The Man That Takes A CAUSAL GLANCE: He Thinks But He Does Not Know - Vr#22 .."deceiving your own selves" (Some take Just a Causal Glance at the WORD OF GOD) Matt 24:4, Rev 13:13, II Thess 2:10, Jer 17:19.
(So sad man = deceiving his own self)

2. He Looks But He Does Not See. - Vr#24 .. "he beholdeth himself, .... and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was"

3. He Hears But He Does Not Act. - Vr#24 .. "and goeth his way" (doing our own thing)

4. The Man That Takes A CAREFUL GAZE at Gods Word Is A Different Man. Vr#25Read)
Vr#25 "..this man shall be blessed in his deed."
