God’s Plan For The Ages

Text: 1 John 5:13 “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

Introduction: Do you know for sure that you will spend eternity with God in Heaven? Gen. 18:14 the Bible says: Is any thing too hard for the LORD?

I. Why Was The Bible Written?
A. That you may know you have eternal life.
B. What the Bible says about eternal life.
C. One day we will all stand before God.
D. Suppose you were standing before God and he were to say to you…
1. Why should I allow you to live with me in Heaven forever?
2. What would you answer be?

II. Eternal Life Is Offered To You As A Gift.
A. Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
B. Eph. 2:8,9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
C. Free to the receiver, but it cost a great deal to the giver.
D. You can not earn it, buy it, or pay for it!

III. Man’s Way.
A. Through religion
B. Good works
C. Morality
D. Philosophy
E. Self-righteousness
F. These all fall short of God’s Way.
G. Rom. 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
H. Titus 3:5 “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;”

IV. God’s Way
A. Is Through The Cross.
B. Christ Bore Our Sins On The Cross
C. 1 Peter 2:24 “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed (spiritually healed or saved).”
D. Jesus Paid It All On The Cross.
E. When Jesus said, It is finished, He was saying, I have paid the debt of sin for the world.
F. Now you don’t have to pay that debt. You Can’t!
G. He rose from the dead so that He could give you eternal life!

V. Saving Faith Is The Only Key That Will Ever Unlock The Door To Heaven.
A. Eph. 2:8,9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
B. Believing in your heart. Not just you head.
C. James 2:14 – 19 “What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 18Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works. 19Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.”
D. Faith without works is dead.

Conclusion: Are you willing to pray to God? God will hear your prayer: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Rom. 10:9 - 13
