The Gift of Life

Text: Eph. 2:1-10

Introduction: Headlines – JFK had all of the gifts of life except the Gift of life. Fame, money, possessions, popularity, everything anyone could want. Except for life. What a shame. What a tragedy. He was so young. Yes life is a gift. A gift from God, weather it is acknowledged or not.

I. The Gift of Life
A. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. (James 1:17)
B. From God
C. Freely Given
1. Can’t be bought
2. Can’t be earned

II. The Gift of Eternal Life – v. 8
A. By Grace - unmerited
B. Trough Faith - believing
C. Greatest of all gifts

III. The Gift of Abundant Life
A. The thief (Satan) cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I (Jesus) am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. 11I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. (John 10:10,11)
B. Fulfilling
1. Happy, joyful
2. Content
C. Fruitful
1. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. (Psalms 126:6)

Conclusion: The greatest gift of all is Eternal Life. Won’t you accept the gift this morning before it’s too late.

Illustration: Christmas and Birthday Gifts

During the Christmas season a little three years old girl was caught up in the spirit and excitement of gifts and giving as only three-year-olds can be, one morning she was picking up, examining, shaking, and guessing what was inside of every package. Then, in a burst of inspiration, she picked up a big red bow that had fallen off one present and held it on top of her head. She looked up at her dad with twinkling eyes and beamed a smile as bright as the Star as she said, "Look at me, Daddy! I'm a present!"
Her words were more true than she realized! Our children are indeed the most wonderful gifts God gives us, at Christmas or any time. We may appreciate the gifts of talents and skills, either God-given or acquired; but do we consider our children as divine gifts--presents from God? What is more unique and special than our children? To help us understand the kind of God we have, the Lord went so far as to send us God's own Son--the most remarkable present of all!
