“Back to the Basics”

Text: 2 Peter 1:1-11

Introduction: We need to get back to the basics. In our lives, our church, our families, and our country. Sometimes the old fashioned ways are the best ways.

I. Reflect Back v.9 “But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.”
A. Where you came from
B. What changes have been made.
C. What God Brought you out of.

II. Compare
A. Not with other men.
B. God’s calling
C. Your convictions

III. Compromise
A. Not with God’s standards.
B. The worldly views.
C. The worldly standards.

IV. Add to Your Faith. V.6 “And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
A. Virtue
1. Moral Uprightness
B. Knowledge
1. Personal
2. Experiencial
C. Temperance
1. Self-control
 

V. Never Be Barren or Unfruitful.
A. Empty Basket
B. Missed Blessings
C. Missed Joys


Conclusion: If we are to move forward we must move backwards. We must go back to the basics.

Illustration: In order to learn about electricity you must first have a basic understanding of the basics.
